Our purpose

We aim to introduce autonomous vehicles in Switzerland.

Autonomus mobility

Autonomous vehicles will fundamentally change mobility as we know it today.

The mission of the Swiss Association for Autonomous Mobility (SAAM) is to enable the introduction of new mobility technologies and offerings in Switzerland for the common good.

Regulation

SAAM provides a platform to develop guiding principles and regulations around the safe and publicly acceptable introduction of autonomous vehicles.

Social Acceptance

SAAM proves how autonomous vehicles can be sustainably implemented while maintaining public acceptance.

Technology

SAAM explores best technological practices for Swiss conditions and actively works to attract technology companies for state-of-the-art projects in Switzerland.

Remote supervision of vehicles (teleoperation)

2019

Development and implementation of a centralized teleoperation concept allowing remote control of automated and connected vehicles based on safety and cyber security requirements.

Initiated by

SmartShuttle

2015-2021

The electric SmartShuttles have been running On-Demand in the Uvrier district of Sion since April. Residents and tourists can book the self-driving vehicles via an app or by phone for their journey free of charge during a trial operation period lasting several months. The combination of self-driving vehicles and On-Demand represents new territory for the partners involved.

Initiated by

MyShuttle

2017-2019

The MyShuttle Project brought an autonomous shuttle into regular traffic in the City of Zug. The chosen routes included speed zones up to 50 km/h and mixed traffic including public transport route buses, regular mixed city traffic, pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and even bike lanes – at the time, one of the most complex environments in Europe for this kind of vehicle.

What drives us

Here are some reviews from key mobility stake holders and from members of SAAM.

Emilio Frazzoli

Professor of Dynamic Systems and Control

ETH Zurich

The main challenge and opportunity in Switzerland is developing the necessary policies and regulations so that autonomous mobility can be integrated with the current mass transit and public transportation options, with a demonstrable positive impact on society, economy, and environment.

Dominique Scheller

Head of Development and Innovation

PostAuto

Autonomous mobility makes last-mile access and remote regions economically feasible.

Thomas Probst

Professor of Law

University of Fribourg, SwissMoves

A car is more than the sum of its technical pieces; mobility is more than the sum of all available means of transport – so let’s conceive automated mobility as something bigger than its elements.

Marco Fuster

Head of Corporate Development

BERNMOBIL

Automated driving enables society to make its mobility more efficient, safer and more ecological.

Marc Chatelain

COO

Geneva public transport

Together with the uprising of new forms of propulsion (electric), the wide spreading of smartphones and with the development of new priorities among the population (less owned property, more sharing, environmental issues, etc), mobility will be revolutionized in the coming 15 years. Autonomous vehicles will play a major role in this evolution.

Rubén André Lorenzo

Head of Sales

Siemens Mobility AG

Switzerland is the international pioneer for autonomous mobility.

Stefano Longo

Head of Automotive

Embotech

As a Swiss company working on autonomous mobility, we are extremely grateful that SAAM exists. This is our opportunity to shape the driving automation roadmaps of our home country, bringing back the knowledge we have acquired from many years working with international customers and innovators.

Jürg Wittwer

Board Member

Touring Club Switzerland, Chief Executive Officer

“Autonomous driving will change mobility as fundamentally as the internet has changed the economy and this is not just a distant dream of the future. Partially autonomous driving (level 3) is technologically feasible today and will change our mobility permanently.”
