Involved members

CHORUS is a European research and innovation project funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme.
Its mission is to develop an orchestration framework that allows all transport modes — from autonomous shuttles to delivery robots and public transit — to work together seamlessly.

By connecting existing systems and harmonizing data exchange between public and private mobility operators, CHORUS aims to make urban transport more efficient, safe, and sustainable.

The project involves seven large-scale demonstration sites across Europe, where real-life pilots will test this orchestration approach under different traffic and environmental conditions.

Swiss participation

Switzerland plays a major role in CHORUS, with three of the seven pilot sites located in:

  • Zurich – testing last-mile logistics and predictive delivery infrastructure,
  • Bern – focusing on autonomous “middle-mile” delivery and smart logistics,
  • Geneva – integrating passenger and freight transport within a shared mobility network.

Through SAAM and its Swiss partners, these pilots will help validate how autonomous and connected mobility can be orchestrated across cities, regions, and borders.

Objectives

  • Design and validate an interoperable orchestration framework for connected and automated mobility (CCAM).
  • Enable cross-sector cooperation between public transport, logistics, micromobility, and data platforms.
  • Demonstrate real-time coordination across multiple European urban environments.
  • Provide policy and regulatory recommendations for future CCAM deployment.

Expected impact

CHORUS will contribute to the European Union’s goal of building a cooperative, connected and automated mobility ecosystem, improving:

  • Efficiency in transport operations,
  • Safety for all road users,
  • Environmental performance through optimized use of infrastructure and vehicles,
  • User experience and trust in autonomous mobility systems.
